Termination Process
To terminate a homeschool program in Florida, you must file a written Letter of Termination (or Notice of Termination) with your local county school district superintendent's home education office within 30 days of stopping your program.
Step-by-Step Termination Process
-
Write the Letter: Create a signed letter or use your specific county school district's termination form. Include the child's legal name, date of birth, date of termination, and your contact info and signature.
-
State the Reason: Common reasons to list include enrolling in a public or private school, moving out of the county/state, graduating, or the child turning 16 and withdrawing under compulsory attendance laws.
-
Submit the Notice: Send the letter by mail, fax, or email to your local district's Home Education Office / District Contacts.
-
Provide Final Records: Submit any required final annual evaluation if it coincides with the end of your active schooling year, and keep your child's portfolio and learning logs for two full years as required by Florida law.
-
Re-enroll: If your child is of compulsory school age (6 to 16), register them promptly in their next public, private, or virtual school option.
